SPARKLE (spar’k’l) v. to be brilliant and lively
SISTERS (sis’ter) n. a close friend who is like a sister

Just to set the record straight, Carol Moss and Monica McCarthy, otherwise known as the Sparkle Sisters, are not models for Victoria’s Secret catalogs. They have grown tired of being asked this question during interviews and so beg you not to even think of going there. What you can feel free to talk about though is their love of performing cabaret and a shared desire to inspire people to sparkle at any age. In their earlier performing lives both on and off camera, they accrued quite a few outrageous behind the scenes stories, which they would never share because they don’t gossip (which is kind of a shame since there are some really, really juicy stories). These experiences and sharing of make-up with stars (nope, they’re not going to name drop) taught them a thing or two about performing. People often comment on how happy they feel after a Sparkle Sisters performance. This may well be due to the Sparkle Sister’s shared philosophy of living their lives from a perspective of love and not fear. Or it could be because they make sure that at some point during the evening, people are holding on to their chairs to avoid falling over from laughter. Carol and Monica spontaneously began to sparkle together in 2003. At Davenport’s Cabaret in Chicago, they’ve performed “P.S. I Love You, from the Sparkle Sisters,” and “Winter Sparkle Land, Tales of Glug and Whiskey,” to sold out houses. They also regularly perform for private parties, libraries and benefits. They released their first CD, “P.S. I Love You,” in November 2004.

Carol Moss ~ A tape recording of Carol singing, “Jesus Loves the Little Children” at age 4 was recently unearthed from her brother’s basement. Happily, this recording will never be shared with the public, but goes to show that she began singing into a microphone at a tender age. Since then Carol has appeared in over 100 commercials and 300 industrial films as well as in television and feature films. In Boston she sang at Faneuil Hall and in Philadelphia at numerous cabaret clubs, private parties and with Young Audiences, introducing opera to school children. In Chicago she has sung at the Royal George, Bailiwick Theater and Davenport’s Piano Bar. She lives outside of Chicago with her husband and two children.

Monica McCarthy,
Monica has done it all: film, television, industrials, commercials, live dance, ballet, live theater, cabaret, teaching, raising 3 boys. She’s never waited tables. She has sung her favorites from Cole Porter in such famous Chicago nightclubs as the Boombala, and on the road in Las Vegas, Orlando and Annaheim. She has performed various roles in many of Chicago’s innovative theaters, including Drury Lane, Wisdom Bridge, Center Theater, The Apple Tree Theater, Pegasus Players and The Royal George. She has inspired a generation of theater students at Appletree, Center Theater, and now at The Music Institute of Chicago. She too lives outside Chicago with her permanent date.
